I've been long fascinated with Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors collection of minigames. Among them Desert Bus holds a special albeit equally obscure place. It is beyond any measures of common sense. While Desert Bus was never conceived to be anything else than a joke or something remotely thoughtful and it is widely mocked as the most pointless piece of gaming ever - for me it has one quite fascinating unintended consequence.

Mysterious, unidentified process that involves so many things it can be explained anyhow and somehow it still manages to be slightly misunderstood, utterly unexplainable and somewhat incomprehensible beyond the fact that it really is and it happens sometimes somehow but not exactly the way you might think.

United States of Poetry Compilation

What could be more weird than to hear a poet reading his own stuff in some specific way. Honestly, i always held some kind of resentment towards this particular "poet reading poem" voice. It is so unnatural, so forced - i want to throw up. I can't stand it. But there some bright spots here and there.

When i was a kid i was a big fan of United States of Poetry series on PBS. I couldn't stand a word from it but there was something slick in the presentation that made me think it was cool. It was only years later when i actually got to know most of the names from the series. And it's funny how great the series hold up in these days when poets are overexposed. I've stumbled upon the Youtube channel of series present Bob Holman and found few interesting bits.
